Tags vs. Custom Fields: Which Should You Use?

Both Tags and Custom Fields store information about a contact, but they serve different purposes in your CRM architecture.

When to use Tags
Tags are best for binary states (Yes/No) or temporary statuses. Use tags for things like "Attended Webinar", "VIP Customer", or "Spring Promo 2026". They are great for quick filtering and triggering workflows.
When to use Custom Fields
Custom Fields are best for specific, variable data points that you might want to insert into an email or use for complex logic. Use fields for "Spouse Name", "Budget Amount", or "Contract Expiry Date".
